School Uniform

At Winston Way Academy, we believe that our school uniform plays an important role in creating a strong sense of belonging, pride and community. Wearing the correct uniform helps our children feel part of the Winston Way family and encourages high standards, readiness to learn and respect for our school.

Parents and carers are expected to ensure that children attend school each day in the correct uniform, including appropriate footwear.

Purchasing School Uniform

We are committed to ensuring that our school uniform is both smart and affordable. Branded uniform items featuring the Winston Way Academy logo can be purchased from Rupens Schoolwear, while non-branded items can be bought from a range of supermarkets and high street shops, giving families flexibility and choice when purchasing uniform for their children. This helps ensure that every child can feel proud to wear their uniform and be part of our school community.

Rupens have been provided with information to support families with uniform purchases and also stock a range of optional items, including school coats, book bags and hats. These items are not compulsory but are available for parents who wish to purchase them.

Recycling School Uniforms

At Winston Way Academy, we are committed to promoting sustainable practices and encouraging families to reuse school uniform whenever possible. Passing uniform on to younger siblings or donating items that are still in good condition helps to reduce waste, save resources and support our wider community.

Research shows that extending the life of school uniforms can significantly reduce their environmental impact. By reusing and recycling uniform items, we can all play a part in protecting the environment and creating a more sustainable future.

We welcome donations of clean, good-quality uniform items, which can be handed in at the school office.

Second-Hand Uniform

Thanks to the generosity of our families, we have a second-hand uniform rail available in the reception area. Parents and carers are welcome to browse and take any items they may find useful.

Uniform items are provided free of charge; however, voluntary donations are always appreciated and help us continue to support community initiatives.

If you have uniform items that your child has outgrown, we would be delighted to receive them. If you need help finding a particular item, please speak to a member of the school office, who will be happy to assist.

Together, by reusing and sharing uniform, we can support one another, care for the environment and strengthen the sense of belonging that is at the heart of Winston Way Academy.

PE Uniform (Girls and Boys)

Our PE uniform is the same for boys and girls:

Plain white T-shirt
Royal Blue Winston Way Compass Logo sweatshirt or cardigan
A pair of plain black PE shorts or plain black jogging bottoms
Black socks
Plain black sport shoes/trainers with plain black laces and black soles
Religious Headwear & Hairbands - Royal Blue, Black or White colour only.
Jewellery - Jewellery should not be worn to school, with the exception of small stud earrings and items worn for religious reasons (for example, a Sikh Kara). For health and safety reasons, earrings must be removed for PE and other physical activities. We strongly recommend that ears are pierced at the start of the summer holiday to allow sufficient time for healing, as newly pierced earrings

Boys (Reception to Year 6)

Plain White button up shirt

Plain mid-grey colour trousers. During hot weather, boys may wear smart mid-grey shorts

Hats - summer and winter hats can be any colour.

Nursery Uniform

Children in Nursery are required to wear school uniform and are very much part of the Winston Way Academy community. We do, however, recognise that our youngest children need clothing that is comfortable and practical for active learning, outdoor play and developing independence. Therefore, a more relaxed uniform approach is adopted for Nursery pupils.

Nursery children may wear Winston Way Academy logo uniform items or plain alternatives. The Nursery uniform consists of:

Boys Nursery:
• Polo shirt: White polo shirt
• Trousers: Plain mid grey tailored school trousers or black joggers
• Jumper: Winston Way Academy royal blue V-neck or round neck jumper with or without
logo.
• Socks: Black
• Shoes: Plain black school shoes with velcro fastening and black soles
• Religious Headwear & Hairbands: Royal Blue, Black or White colour only.
• Jewellery: Jewellery should not be worn to school, with the exception of small stud earrings
and items worn for religious reasons (for example, a Sikh Kara). For health and safety
reasons, earrings must be removed for PE and other physical activities. We strongly
recommend that ears are pierced at the start of the summer holiday to allow sufficient time
for healing, as newly pierced earrings cannot be worn in school.

Girls Nursery
• Trousers: Plain mid grey tailored school trousers or black joggers.
• Pinafore dress: Plain mid grey tailored pinafore dress with box pleat or straight cut.
• Summer dresses: Blue gingham summer dresses may be worn in hot weather only.
• Skirt: Plain mid grey knee length tailored school skirt.
• Jumper: Winston Way Academy royal blue V-neck or round neck jumper with/or without
logo.
• Socks: Black
• Shoes: Plain black school shoes with velcro fastening and black soles
• Religious Headwear & Hairbands: Royal Blue, Black or White colour only, however, we kindly
request that headwear is not worn in Nursery, as children at this age are still developing
independence, require frequent support with self-care, and benefit from safe, comfortable,
and unrestricted movement during play and learning activities.

As accidents can occasionally happen during the school day, parents and carers must provide a spare set of clothes in a clearly labelled bag. These do not need to be school uniform but should be suitable and comfortable for your child to change into if required.
