Inclusive education

We take pride in our commitment to an inclusive education and prioritise the inclusion of all students, ensuring they participate in mainstream lessons alongside their peers. This approach allows them to benefit from the expertise of our teachers and engage with their peers. Our dedicated staff regularly receive ongoing professional development to enhance their ability to support students with additional needs. By adhering to the DfE SEND code of practice, we aim to provide excellent teaching for all and effective support for students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

At Winston Way Academy, we are committed to supporting all pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), regardless of their specific needs, to help them make the best possible progress and achieve their potential. We ensure that all children are included in all areas of the curriculum, with careful consideration given to the needs of SEND pupils. Our graduated approach to SEND ensures early identification of needs and a continuum of support to enable progress. Please refer to our SEND Policy for detailed information on the purpose, nature, and management of special educational needs within our school.

Admissions

For children with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP):
The Local Authority will send the school copies of the child’s most recent EHCP, outlining their needs. The school will assess these needs and consult with the local authority to determine if we can meet them. We strongly encourage parents of children with EHCPs to visit the school and speak with the SENDCo to discuss any questions and concerns, ensuring the most appropriate setting for your child.

For children with additional needs and SEND (without an EHCP):
Please apply via the local authority’s normal admissions procedure. We still strongly encourage you to visit the school to discuss your child’s needs and the suitability of our support.
