Welcome to Reception at Winston Way Academy

We are delighted that you are considering our school for your child’s Reception year. Starting school is a special milestone, and at Winston Way Academy, we are committed to making this transition a happy and positive experience for every child and family.

Our Reception provision is vibrant, nurturing, and inclusive, with three Reception classes, each welcoming up to 30 pupils. We offer a rich and engaging learning environment where children are encouraged to explore, play, and grow in confidence.

Admissions Process

Reception admissions are managed by the London Borough of Redbridge. They oversee all applications and are the first point of contact for any queries or concerns. For full details on how to apply, please visit the Redbridge Admissions website.

Children usually start Reception in the September following their fourth birthday, and applications are typically submitted in the Autumn term of the year before. Places are allocated in the late Spring or early Summer term. If a place is not offered, parents have the right to appeal through the local authority.

Transition and Induction

To help children settle in smoothly, we offer a range of transition activities:

  • Stay and Play Session: In the Summer Term before your child starts, families are invited to visit the school, meet the Reception team, and explore the classroom environment.
  • Home Visits: Our Reception staff also arrange home visits in July or early September, giving children a chance to meet their teacher in a familiar setting and helping us get to know each child individually.

We look forward to welcoming you and your child to our school community. If you would like to arrange a visit or have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Even if your child already attends our school nursery or has a sibling at Winston Way Academy, you must still apply for a Reception place with London Borough of Redbridge.

All applications for Reception 2025 must be made online through the London Borough of Redbridge. Click here for further information on how to apply.

The deadline for on-time applications was 11:59 PM on 15th January 2025.
If you missed this deadline, don’t worry — you can still submit a late application.
